Stoilidis Illustrations

This website is dedicated to advertise my work to the public as well as showing my artistic skills to potential clients.

My creative process consists of drawing sketches traditionally and refine them digitally. I am still trying to experiment with different creative methods in my work such as inking with pens and colouring with markers,I also have a small experience with acrylic paints.

First digital illustrations

Beginning my journey with digital drawing felt like one of the most challenging phases of my creative life. As illustrators, we were tasked with mastering various techniques to prepare for professional work while discovering our own artistic voice. In Lincoln's University, digital development was a major focus, with first-year students following a dedicated module for digital growth. Moving familiar traditional sketching to this new format was quite difficult, as I had to navigate complex tools that I never used before. However, through persistent efforts and practice, I began to see a steady improvement in my creative abilities over time.

Designing products and an album cover for GirlBand

When I returned to Lincoln for my second year of university, one of our projects was to create an album cover and three different products, with the first being a T-shirt, the second being a tote bag, and the last one for us to decide. I remember that I was clueless about how I wanted to approach this project until one of my teachers saw my personal work and suggested that I illustrate a mascot to represent the band and its audience. Looking back at it, I wasn't able to achieve the end goal, as I ended up creating a self-inserted character for the lead singer's band, but these illustrations became a small inspiration for my creativity and future projects.

The second semester of my second year of studying in Lincoln, we were introduced in narrating and illustrating our own books, as we had to create an entire children's book that would touch upon deep themes as well as a 4 page graphic novel. Among these two projects, the children's book was more favourable in my eyes, as it pushed me to improve my skills in digital drawing and played a vital role in what illustrator I wanted to become. Till this day, I still consider it one of my greatest works.

In addition to this site, I developed cartoon personas of myself and my brother to serve as mascots for my brand. I use these for business cards and stickers to showcase my work to a wider audience. Animation and cartoons were a defining part of my childhood and a key reason why I became an illustrator. Bringing these characters to life felt like a natural step in my creative journey.

Illustrations with historical context

Apart from illustrating original content, I also design drawings that depict historical facts or urban myths. For example, we were given the task to design products of our choice, to advertise Lincoln's castle. Therefore I took the liberty to create greeting cards with mascots that were based from certain ghost stories  as well as historical records that took place in the area. Furthermore, the characters were designed to represent the castle during the Victorian era, which I felt it was dismissed in its advertising merch.

During the third course of my Uni studies, our first projects were to create an illustration that analyzes the happiness levels of countries of our choosing and comments on a societal issue that intrigued us the most. Besides their intended purposes, these illustrations served as practice material for comic book illustrations.

Character design "traditional development"

Designing comics allows me to build meaningful connections through character creation. My workflow begins with traditional sketches to explore shapes and silhouettes with total freedom. This foundation is later transitioned into digital software, where I polish and refine every detail into a professional final product.

Once my visual sketches are complete, I transition to digital workflows to perfect body proportions and refine line work. Digital tools allow me to experiment with diverse color palettes cleanly while providing superior control over shading and highlighting compared to traditional media.

Comic Book development digital

Following a similar path to my character design, I produced my comic book pages digitally because of the exact reasons that I described above. While I appreciate the efficiency of digital colouring over more labor-intensive traditional approaches, I am eager to integrate classic creative methods into my future projects, as I am confident that expanding my artistic skills will enhance my versatility and improve my chances for securing professional opportunities  within certain creative industries.
